Aid for Developing Countries (AFDC) is a non-profit 501.c.3 corporation set up for the express purpose of providing humanitarian assistance and teaching to disadvantaged people in developing countries.
Our current efforts are concentrated in the Creve area to the Northwest Department of Haiti. This area is characterized by a very high unemployment rate (estimated at 80%), a high illiteracy rate (appr. 80%), and an average income of 2 US$/day. Because of various weather events over the past years such as, hurricanes and then the earthquake in 2010, there is a major shortage of food throughout the area with some people going for days without sufficient nutrition. The water sources are sparse and unclean to drink. Runoff water is their cleanest, but limited as well with not enough cisterns or the proper roofing to allow runoff to be collected.
Now, after one year and 3 months several of the influx of people into Creve after the earthquake have settled in and some have left. Things seem to be getting back to the normal routines; only with more people.
Brother Francios Norcilus is a very busy man, trying to accommodate all the people there. This year AFDC hopes to help with our new Agricultural project: a Demonstration Farm. This is an adult education program for the young adult men and we hope to add some of the produce to the meals for the children at the schools. See more about this in our “AGRICULTURE” tab.
The schools in Creve are busy with approximately 900 student from K-13. Bro. Norcilus currently has 3 Christian schools; two elementary and one high school. Most of the better schools are funded by churches and other Christian organizations through donations from the U.S. and other countries. See “EDUCATION” for more on what is going on with the schools and what is being offered for the students.
The water supply is provided by the Lord himself; natural spring water and cistern water where they collect the rain from the roof tops. The rain is then drained into a cistern where it is filtered by way of settlement and sand. It’s not clean water, but the cleanest they have. There is a well at the school that was dug many years ago; that was in need of repair. Thanks to many of our donors we were able to fix that well without having to dig a new one. This was a cooperative effort with Blue Ridge International For Christ Inc. They are located in Port au Prince. Their work is digging and repairing wells within the country of Haiti. See “Water Projects” for more information on our progress there!
Electricity remains scarce and is provided mostly by solar panels or gas generators. Both of which can be very costly. Again, thanks to you, our caring donors; we were able to provide solar panels to power our new water filters! We are, however, in need of more panels and/or generators to supply more electricity for the pump on the well and for the medical clinic.
Please read about all our ongoing projects, the outcomes and successes. There is always a new project in the works so please enjoy the different areas of ministry that we are involved in. We are so blessed to have you, our donors, with your generous, loving and giving hearts. The success of these projects are only possible with all of you that have given into our ministry. If you share our concerns of the health and welfare of these people, please provide whatever assistance the Lord leads you to give. You can designate your donations for any project that we have listed and watch for the new ones too! There are no funds that go to staff or operational costs; unless designated. We are all volunteers that love the Lord and have a heart for Haiti. We want to “serve the Lord with gladness” in the small community of Creve; Haiti.
Please review our menu and be in prayer of how the Lord may lead you in your involvement in helping us. Most of all PRAY! That is easy and cheap, but yet it is only the power of prayer that brings all this together!! Thank you! And God Bless all of you!
